Anglican Bishop: Why a Christian Woman Should Succeed Fashola as Governor of Lagos + Why Churches Must Not Pay Tax!
Rt. Rev. Babatunde Adeyemi, Bishop of The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Badagry Diocese suggested Mrs. Orelope-Adefulire as next governor of Lagos State.
He said...
, "If we are looking for a Christian in
whom there is no guile to succeed Governor
Babatunde Fashola, I will not hesitate to
nominate Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, a
Christian, endowed with the fruit of the spirit.
"What is counting against her nomination as
governor of Lagos State? Is it gender? I do not
think we should look at that. She possesses the experience and good standing to lead the state, having been in politics for quite a while and serving in various capacities as a member of Lagos State House of Assembly, Commissioner and then the deputy governor.
"Let us give our women a chance. Women are good managers of resources."
He further went ahead to speak against religious organisations paying taxes saying such a decision would only amount to double taxation and conspiracy against the masses.
He made the remarks while fielding questions from journalists on the sideline of the Diocese's First Session of the Fourth Synod held at St. Peter's Church Ajido, Badagry, Lagos.
Rev Adeyemi said the church was a not-for profit organisation, adding that members that paid tithes were taxpayers.
He said, "If churches and mosques are to be taxed, then they must include shrines also. Churches and mosques are non-profit organisations. What are they selling?
Religious organisations are like NGOs, those who buy private jets should be made to pay tax on them.
"If you are asking the workers to pay tax, you are right. If you are asking our schools to pay, you are right. But if you are asking the church as an institution to pay, how do you now measure it because the persons who have come to bring these offerings and tithes to God have already paid their tax? Then it becomes double taxation and a conspiracy against the masses."

Haaa, oga fashola must not hear this one o. Its coup o
I pray a woman really takes over from him. Brethen, let's give a woman a chance
Way to go Bishop! At least I read on this blog that Fashola will never want a Christian to succeed him. Its good to have a Bishop speaks out against the Muslim governor
Be careful what you wish for brethren cos u might as well get it. Women in position of power is unpredictable and I can't say I agree that a woman should lead
Brethen, you will need a serious miracle to make this happen ooooooo cos we all know that APC rules Lagos and if an APC member is leaving an office they put another APC member to replace him and u may likely not get an APC member as a Christian and a woman for that matter!
I sit dey watch o! Election is next year
Ok now, a shout out to all Anglican members. Bishop has given us a candidate to vote for. So make ur vote count
Bishop sir, am sorry to say, but sir with this statement, u just declared war on APC
Haaaa... That's bold move sir.
Has Mrs. Orelope-Adefulire said she's running as next governor of Lagos State.
