What Nathaniel Bassey Said About Listening To Secular Songs Will Shock You! Yes, I Was Shocked My Self!
Whether it’s right for Christians to listen to secular songs or not, has always been a controversial topic. No wonder Nigerian popular Singer and Pastor, Nathaniel Bassey, took to Facebook today to address it. The music minister warned believers to separate themselves from worldly songs, adding that light and darkness do not go.
He posted on his Facebook Page, ‘’My dear believer, why the
mixture? Gospel song one minute, worldly one the next. Like mixing beer and soft drink. Light & darkness don’t mix o.’’
“So choose ye this day what ye shall listen to. If light, stay with light. If darkness, stick with it. Such mixtures will lead to spiritual constipation. But Choose life, so you can live.’’ Urged the ‘Oni ise iyanu’ singer.
His post was accompanied by supporting comments but not all the commentators agreed with him.\
Uchenna Edeh, one of the commentators wrote, “Brother, I don’t agree with you on this one. A Christian can still sing or listen to a good song that passes good message or morals to the society. I will put it to you that many of you listen to love songs.”
Another commentator, Susan Dania, replied the singer. She wrote, “Then the gospel artiste should stop the mixture of gospel lyrics with worldly beats.”

What is Gospel music ? What is worldly music? I taught my children to listen to lyrics so as to discern what is good or bad.I grew up on music by fela, sunny, obey,Adeolu, owo blow etc. As worldly as they were, they were great songs.
I think it's like saying the Bible is the only book you should read. Its better to say read your Bible but be discerning in reading other books eg a book encouraging premarital sex or pornography.

Omo see me see trouble o. Biko Bros Nathaniel park well
I listen to good musics either good or gospel. By the way what is your definition of secular music? Is it a song that doesn't mention Jesus or God in it? I bet that's your definition of secular music. A song that doesn't give glory to God. What of songs that are actually sang by a Christian who is sold out to God, but was meant to encourage the broken heart in a way that you won't know it's not a gospel song.
I'm just saying, but you could be wrong. You know
I love Bruno Mars' song. Does it mean I'm going to hell fire, Pastor Nathinel
You love Bruno Mars song? Yeye dey worry you. Why you no comment your name and let me help you check if it's in the book of life.
I bet you can't sing only Pastor Natheniel's song plus Sammy Okposo and other gospel singer alone on your wedding. I mean that wedding reception will be something else. There are good songs out there that won't provoke God a bit.
@Gold Adeleke, you are right. I agree with you on reading the only bible and not other books and relating it to what Pastor Nathaniel said up there answers the whole thing, but you saying as worldly as the songs of sunny ade and the rest are they are good songs. What is worldly is worldly. You can't have it both ways. It's either its godly or it's worldly. If you think sunny ade's song is not godly then it's worldly. Let's not mix it up.
