Her
name is Sarah Bessey (pictured above), an award-winning blogger and
author of “Jesus Feminist”. Recently, she posted on her blog faithit.com
that women’s church ministries are not bringing the ladies closer to
God, as they are supposed to be doing, because they spend too much time
discussing or partaking in worldly events, such as home decorating or
baking.
Well, I'm not so sure about that
because my pastor's wife is doing a great job bring women closer to God,
but a a point you might want to think she's not entirely wrong.
Read her statement after the cut...
Sarah
stated that if she wanted to learn how to decorate a cupcake, she would
go to a class specifically designed for that purpose, not to church.
She adds that home decorating classes should be left to the
professionals, not a group of women who are supposed to be learning the
ways of Christ.
A wife, mother of three, and resident
of Abbotsford in British Columbia, Canada, Bessey believes that women
going to church to drink from the knowledge of Jesus are dying of thirst
because of the unrelated events they have to sit through.
Church
should not be a place where women gather to complain about how much
housework they have to do or share the latest neighborhood gossip, it
should be a place where women come together in faith and worship their
Creator, according to Bessey. She adds that women’s church groups should
be showing their members how they can live up to the expectations of
God because they were created in His divine image.
Bessey
would rather listen to the average woman in the group share her story
about faith in Christ than listen to invited speakers tell her how to
decorate her home or try a new recipe. She adds that having Bible
studies with a nicely flowered book cover is not how she believes she
can come closer to God and His wisdom.
When Idelette
McVicker, founder and editor-in-chief of Shelovesmagazine wrote the
following verses, she hit the nail right on the head, according to
Bessey.
Let us RISE to the questions of our time.
Let us SPEAK to the injustices in our world.
Let us MOVE the mountains of fear and intimidation.
Let us SHOUT down the walls that separate and divide.
Let us FILL the Earth with the fragrance of Love.
Let us be women who Love.
Women’s
ministries should be designed to bring members closer together in their
faith and help each other in times of need or distress, not a safe
place where women can pretend to be doing good works, concludes Bessey.
