The hit TV show "Scandal" has captivated the nation and gotten a great deal of attention from viewers. Most of these viewers are women and many of them are in the church.
This has led Santita Jackson to ask why it seems that church folk are so intrigued with Scandal and it's main character, Olivia Pope.
After all, Pope is doing much of the opposite of that which is condoned in church, mainly by having an affair with a married man. The church is supposed to...
build families, not encourage people to ruin them, right?
Maybe not all the time.
During the conversation, Santita and her panel of guests ask why church folk are so captivated by Scandal.
She says that some of this may be due to the fact that the show allows them to dig into their most private thoughts.
The panel also says that the show could be a reflection of their own lives. Many pastors are having affairs. Deacons are having affairs. People in the pews are having affairs! Could it be that Scandal is loved by so many in the church because a lot of women want to live the life of Olivia Pope?
If any of this is true, would that make it wrong to remove a pastor from the pulpit after his affair is revealed? After all, there are other pastors who are doing the same things; they just haven't been caught yet.
Santita Jackson is the daughter of famed pastor Rev. Jesse Jackson, who has seen his own storied civil rights career also be forced to manage a bit of scandal over the years.
Despite these struggles, Rev. Jackson has kept his family together and remained a respected member of both the church and civil rights communities.
So, Santita's perspective is one that should add value to the discussion.
