Who Agrees With Governor Fashola that Christianity Is not a Yardstick for Good Governance?

At an inter-faith conference titled, 'Peace, Religious Harmony and Good Governance: Issues and Challenges,' at the FESTAC, Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has said in his speech and I quote...

"I read in the papers that a group is insisting on a Christian governor. I can't recall the last time that a governor of Lagos was elected based on his religious beliefs.

"What will the preference for governor of one faith over the other even benefit us? Will it give one religion roads that other faiths cannot use? Will it give them...
schools that children from other faiths cannot attend or will it bring water that only one faith can drink. Does hunger know your faith?

"Maybe we should begin to have Christian money and Muslim money; and in the blood banks, when life is being threatened, maybe we should begin to have Christian blood and Muslim blood."

He went further to warn religious leaders to watch what they say in places of worship, adding that faith was a powerful tool that must not be used for personal aggrandizement.

He said, "The state and religion used to be one; but over time, we have also tried to separate religion and the state.

"I'm not sure that a clear separation will happen. But perhaps, I will suggest that we should take better control of our pulpits and be more restrained in what comes from there."

First, I beg to disagree on 'what will the preference for governor of one faith over the other even benefit us?'

A lot, sir!!!

Why, because to a Christian Holy Spirit makes the difference. He or she comes under the leadership of the Holy Spirit and a governor cannot but to seek guidance from the God he serve once in a while. That's where the differences set in!

Second, was these conference organised to scold Christian faith based on the rumour he heard?

Tessy, you just speak my mind. That was exactly what I was thinking when I was reading his diluted speech. There is a huge difference if a Christian or Muslim become governor because without being a governor the difference is glaring.

Its not the place of a governor to respond to religious issue since it has to do with conflicting issues like when he himself is a Muslim. He should be advice not to speak against other religion most especially when it base on rumor.

Am going to agree with you Tessy on this one. Its not the place of governor to respond to religious rumor most especially when its not your religion. You are creating separation yourself. In fact, he made the whole conference look like it was setup to castigate Christians. Aba

Pls Tessy, who are the organiser of this inter-faith conference. Which of our reputable pastor is present or participated in the so called conference. Am sure this type of conference was put together by Muslims who are in his political parties.

Wrong response at the wrong place and at the wrong time. Who is his adviser again?
