It's A Lie, "Confab Didn’t Ask Religious Bodies to Pay Taxes" - Delegate

A Catholic Priest, Monsignor Obiora Ike, the deputy leader of South East delegation and a member of the National Conference Committee on Religion, denied reports that the the confab voted that religious bodies should pay taxes to the government.

But Ike, a catholic priest, informed Punch correspondent that the conference did not vote that churches should be taxed. He stressed that...
the Committee on Religion did not recommend taxation of churches and mosques in the first instance.

"The fact is no committee recommended taxation for any religious groups; no committee did that – no committee has recommended that.

"The only committee that may have recommended that is the committee on religion, but I am in the committee on religion and we did not even discuss it. This is very very important," the cleric said.

"Religious groups in Nigeria, including Muslims, Christians and the various confessions, try to build up a moral space so that people will live according to their faith, and values and standards that observe discipline according to the service of God.

"So, from where do they make money to pay tax?," he asked.

I kind of buy the idea of church paying tax I think it will give some sense of accountabliity. So that when we so seed we go know how its been spent. We will know how much is moving in n out. It will help us know that church are using the money for the purpose it was meant for. Just saying pls no crucify me o.
